UNICEF

In class we are doing a small project on NGOs (non-governmental organizations). We had to pick one the organizations and I picked UNICEF. I picked UNICEF because usaully every Halloween we have UNICEF boxes with us that we take while trick or treating door to door and we put on organizations in school and have to pay a dollar to help UNICEF. I want to learn more about it so I picked it.
UNICEF Stands for United Nations International Children’s Emergency Fund. It was established in 1946 to help suffering children in the European countries destroyed by World War II. IN 1953, UNICEF was made a permanent arm of the UN to address the plight of children in Asia, Africa, the Middle East and Latin America. UNICEF changed the name to United Nations Children’s Fund. Volunteers formed UNICEF Canada in 1955 to organise the first Trick-or Treat for UNICEF.
You can donate money by going to the site. Your money you donate goes forward to helping children with eduaction, health, equality and protection. Our money can provide immunization to protect a child for life against the six leading child-killing and maiming deseases for only $25. For $100.00 you can buy a basic family water kit for ten households which includes detergent, soap, wash basin, towels, bucket and water purification tablets. The more money you donate the more you buy to help families and children live.
Many of the offices in Canada you can visit to is Ontario, Quebec, Alberta, British Columbia, Prairie Region, and Atlantic Region. Those are some places where you can learn more about UNICEF.
If your interested in helping children, visit the site above to read more about the organization and what you can do to help.

Animals Being Sent Out
I found a new a blog and a post written about a group of people helping some families in a village of Muribe in northwest Tanzania.
The International Affairs meet once a month to discuss problems in some countries and things they can do to help out families. The group gives food, shelter and clothing. The group sent a goat out to help the family provide protein and income from the milk and other dairy products to help the family use the supplies to pay for medicines, housing and school for their children to get a good education. The group also sent out 20 chickens for a family in Kosovo. The chickens will help the family with a supply of protien-rich eggs and meat to help deceases.
I think this is a good idea because the more money you earn it helps you buy medicine to fight off sicknesses and the children can go to school and be able to afford it and get a good education to help them in their future. This all slowly helps out the village and makes them be able to do more things by having more money and preventing problems from happening with their housing.

Clinic Right Over There
I was looking through the Nata Village site and I found something that was written a while ago but I found it interesting. I have been writing about Nata Village before so I wanted to write about this.
The Nata Clinic made a sign directing people to the Nata Clinic where people can go if they need any medical care. Before, they didn’t have a sign which couldn’t help people direct themselves to the clinic to get medical care.
I think this is a good idea because it directs to get the the Nata Clinic, and if they didn’t have the sign people wouldn’t be sure where to go or what to do to get help. This gives Nata Clinic a lot of people to help and people will be able to reach help. The sign shows people that Nata Clinic is open for anyone at anytime.

Should you be Scared?
I was looking around for new sites to write about and I saw one that actaully looked interesting to me and caught my eye.
What is third hand smoke? Third hand smoke is tobacco smoke contamination that stays after the smoke has been done. Not many people know about this new study out. It has been around for a long time but just been given a name. Even though you put out your smoke the smoke remains in the same room and the toxins go into your furniture, carpet, etc which makes it a hazard for infants and children.
Third hand smoke builds up over time on your furniture, carpets, etc smoke by smoke. Smokers are also infected with third hand smoke. The toxins stay on your clothing and in your hair.
Theres not many ways you can get rid of third hand smoking. The only way is to basically quit smoking.
I think third hand smoking is just as bad as second hand smoking, maybe even worse. The way I think of this is to quit it puts a lot of people in danger, your children, friends, family even you.

New Sites to check out
I was looking on google for a few new sites to subscribe to and I came up with a few about animal cruelty, poverty and health.
Health (third hand smoke)- This site is about third hand smoke. The smoke is stuck in the furniture, carpets, clothing, and other materials. When you put a smoke out in a room and come back to the room one day later it is harmful for children and infants. It’s actualy very harmful for both smokers, children, and infants. The smokers are also contaminated because the toxins release through the smokers hair and clothing. I think this is a really good site to visit because this is a new study that just got realeased and got a name. I’m sure many people would want to learn about this.
Poverty- I found this site interesting and would be used good to subscribe to because poverty is a world issue and you hear about what poverty is but you dont really see what is happening and this blog shows you a bit about poverty and gives you a few ideas about the issue. This site talks about low production in food crops and a major shortage of food because of the climate changes.
Animal Abuse - This site talks about the ideas of animal abuse, what it is and the idea of it. I used to this site to subscribe to because it has very good pictures, and it is updated week to week about animals and new events going on.

Another Update..
Christmas is almost here! We get out of school on Friday and I think we come back January 5th. Some time at the end of December I’m going down to Nipawin to see my friends. I’m going to have a blast there because I always do.
Volleyball season is over until next year but I think one of the teachers are holding practise once a week to get us ready for highschool if you want to join the team. On Frontier weekend our team played many sets and won the first set and lost the second set so we had to play one to 15. We ended up winning and we had to play against Cranberry for first place. The first set went all the way up to 27 points and everyone was getting really nervous. We played the second set and we lost. We could of won the game if we weren’t so nervous. Some more Frontier games are coming up but I’m not going in it because I don’t like the sport they are playing this year.
Theres not many things going on right but Christmas just right around the corner.

Around the Class
So far in school we have had a subsitute for a few days so were just catching up on the work while our teacher was gone. We started a radio play with our partners and were still working on them. They will be up on the web over Christmas Holidays. The three main ideas we have to do our radio plays are about is western, mystery, and science.
We have just finished a science project about volcanoes, mountains, earth quakes, and tsunamis. The unit was kind of easy and we have a test coming up soon I think.
We havent really had school for the past two weeks because today we get out early for parent teacher interviews and then tomorrow we have frontier games that are running from Thursday till Friday. I’m going to be in volley ball so I will be busy. I hope we place good. That’s basicaly all thats been happening around here.
The Hot LunchBox Pouch
On Dvice I was looking for something interesting that would catch my mind that I want to write about and I chose this. A new lunch kit was made that warms up your food to 60 degrees celcius for a lunch, supper, or anything you need the lunch for to stay warm. This lunch kit runs off a USB pouch that you plug into your computer and helps warm your food up.
This is easy to use because computers are basically surrounding you just about everywhere you go. More people would be able to enjoy their lunch warm the way they like it by just using a computer. It’s kind of cheap $24.49 I think in USA dollars. It would be cool to have a new lunchbox pouch that can keep your food cold too. This lunchbox is about a normal lunchbox size that is kind of small and you cant just take it to work with you.
If you would like to look at more picturs about the lunchbox pouch click here.

Volleyball
Im back from The Pas and we stayed the night in the school with another team. Before the tournament we played them just for fun and we ended up winning. The next day we lost our first game (both sets) in volleyball and then we won our next 2 games. We got into the semi finals and won our first set by one point and then they won the next set by one point. We had to play a breaker to 15 and they ended up winning but Im pretty sure we placed second.
Good Job Girls:)
Update!
Hey
This weekend were going to The Pas for another volleyball tournament. Were staying the night at the school and we don’t get to go shopping or anything so we will probably be roaming the hallways. I think everyone on the team is going and the guys team is going too but their not staying the night. Im pretty sure that theres more than ten teams competing and last time we placed first so hopefully we will place first again! If we dont place first I hope we place in something. After this tournament were having a volleyball tournament in my town and six girls teams are coming and four boy teams I think. Hopefully we will play good here also.
Wish us good luck!
